Ottawa, ON (My Sportsbook) - The Ottawa Senators have re-signed captain Daniel Alfredsson to a four-year contract. The 35-year-old Alfredsson, who won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in 1996, is playing in his 13th NHL season -- all with Ottawa. He has collected three goals and six assists in eight games for the Senators, who are 3-5-1 this season. "Our ability to reach a new contract so early in the season speaks to the high level of commitment and respect that exists between Daniel and our hockey club. With today's signing, I deliver on a promise to our fans and to Daniel that I would make him a Senator for life," said Senators owner Eugene Melnyk. "Daniel's leadership and on-ice skills make him one of the best all-round players in the National Hockey League and I'm delighted that he will remain an integral part of the Senators organization." A five-time All-Star, Alfredsson is Ottawa's leader in games played (861), goals (334), assists (522) and points (856). He also leads the Senators in many postseason categories, including games played (101), goals (43), assists (37) and points (80). "Daniel is the type of person and player that we want to continue building this franchise around," said general manager Bryan Murray. "We are happy to have him here to lead our team towards the goal of bringing a Stanley Cup to Ottawa." Alfredsson has also played on 12 different occasions for Sweden in international competition, and was a prominent member of Sweden's Olympic gold-medal winning team in 2006.
