Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The Ohio State Buckeyes took over the top spot in the Bowl Championship Series standings, while Oklahoma dropped three positions to No.4.
Ohio State (11-0) has 3.41 total points in the standings. Miami (9-0) moved up one spot to second and has 4.10 points after a 26-3 win over Tennessee. The Hurricanes claimed the top spot in the AP poll.
Washington State (9-1), which garnered 8.77 points, claimed the No.3 spot, while the Sooners (8-1) are fourth with 10.05 points. Oklahoma was upset by unranked Texas A&M, 30-26, on Saturday.
The BCS standings consist of five major components: subjective polls of the writers and coaches, computer rankings, schedule strength, team record and quality wins. The margin of victory component in the computer polls that helped comprise the BCS rankings last year was eliminated.
Texas (9-1) is fifth with 11.50 points and Georgia (9-1) captured the sixth spot with 14.48 points. Notre Dame (9-1), which was ranked third in the BCS two weeks ago, remained No. 7 after a 30-23 win over Navy. Iowa (10-1) is ranked eighth in the BCS, followed by Southern California (7-2) and Michigan (8-2).
Florida State, Kansas State, Louisiana State, Florida and Penn State round out the BCS this week. The BCS standings will be released each Monday during the season, and the final rankings will come out December 8.
The two teams that have the lowest point totals in the standings will play in the national championship game in the Fiesta Bowl on January 3.
Champions of six conferences -- the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, and SEC will qualify for a BCS game. Two at-large teams will also be selected.
The Hurricanes played Nebraska in the Rose Bowl in last year's title game. The BCS system received criticism because the Cornhuskers got into the championship contest despite losing to Colorado by 26 points in their final regular season game and not even playing in the Big 12 title game.
Even though it is highly unlikely that there will be a tie in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season, the commissioners did develop a tiebreaking plan. The first tiebreaker will be head-to-head results, followed by victory over the highest-ranked BCS team and best strength of schedule rating.
