Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - Ian Laperriere had a goal and an assist, as the Colorado Avalanche downed the Edmonton Oilers, 4-1, at Pepsi Center.

Paul Stastny, Joe Sakic and Cody McLeod also scored for the Avalanche, who have reeled off four straight wins after beginning the season with three consecutive one-goal losses. Ben Guite and Darcy Tucker each collected two assists, while Peter Budaj made 25 saves.

"I felt good tonight," said Budaj. "We all played well, especially in the third. Our hard work paid off."

Shawn Horcoff lit the lamp and Mathieu Garon allowed four goals on 25 shots for Edmonton, which has lost two games in a row after opening the year with four straight wins.

"We played good in the first half, but for this game we needed to play for 60 minutes," said Garon. "They (Avalanche) had a great effort."

Following a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Horcoff put Edmonton on the board, scoring a power-play goal 3:40 into the second period.

Sheldon Souray ripped a slap shot from the point that ricocheted off the sticks of Avalanche defensemen Brett Clark and Adam Foote down low. Foote then inadvertently cleared the puck right to Horcoff, who buried it past a fallen Budaj.

Laperriere evened the score with 7:22 to go in the stanza.

The gritty winger carried the puck into the Oilers zone and his intended drop pass to Guite at the right boards was kept in by the linesman's skate. Guite then corralled the puck at the blue line and fired a shot on goal that hit traffic in front of Garon. Laperriere scooped up the rebound and slid a backhander through the legs of the Edmonton netminder.

Colorado scored twice in a 65-second span late in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Stastny's power-play marker put the Avs on top with 2:08 remaining, then McLeod drove hard to the net and, with one hand on the stick, pushed the puck underneath the left leg of Garon.

Sakic's 625th career tally at 3:32 of the third accounted for the final score.

Game Notes
