(My Sportsbook) - The
Ottawa Senators will continue a five-game homestand tonight when they welcome the
Florida Panthers to Scotiabank Place.
The Senators have alternated losses and wins ever since dropping their season opener to Pittsburgh in Stockholm on October 4. Ottawa is 1-2-0 so far on its residency, which will come to a close Friday evening against Anaheim.
Ottawa last played on Saturday and was handed a 4-2 setback by Boston, as Phil Kessel registered two goals and an assist to lead the Bruins to the win over their Northeast Division rivals.
Nick Foligno and Daniel Alfredsson each found the back of the net for the Senators, who have lost two of three. Dany Heatley had an assist, while Martin Gerber allowed four goals on 27 shots in defeat.
The Senators had a solid 22-15-4 record as the home team in 2007-08, but have lost three of four (1-2-1) at Scotiabank Place so far this year.
Florida was trying to win back-to-back games for the first time in 2008-09 on Monday evening in Montreal, but the Panthers were handed a 3-1 setback. Francis Bouillon had the go-ahead goal midway through the third period to help lift Montreal to its fifth straight victory.
Keith Ballard, who was acquired this past summer in the deal that sent Olli Jokinen to Phoenix, scored his first goal as a Panther. Tomas Vokoun stopped 31 shots, but Florida faltered two nights after blanking the New York Islanders.
It was Florida's first loss at Montreal in regulation since January 28, 2003, a span of 10 games.
The Panthers are completing a brief two-game road trip tonight. They are 0-2-0 as the visiting team this year.
Ottawa has dominated the series with the Panthers in recent years, winning seven of eight and 12 of the last 15 encounters between the clubs. Florida has also dropped four in a row and six of seven in Ottawa and hasn't picked up a victory in Canada's capital city since an overtime win on April 13, 2006.
