Quenneville, Blackhawks host Canucks

(My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Blackhawks will try to get their first win under new head coach Joel Quenneville tonight, when they welcome the Vancouver Canucks to the United Center.

The Blackhawks played their first game under Quenneville in St. Louis on Saturday -- two days after Denis Savard was fired after leading Chicago to a 1-2-1 start to the season. Quenneville, who is the all-time winningest coach in Blues history, couldn't get the victory against his former club, but the Blackhawks did earn a point in the shootout loss.

T.J. Oshie scored the game-winner in the shootout, as St. Louis posted the 4-3 decision in the Central Division battle at the Scottrade Center.

Brad Boyes scored first for the home team in the second round of the shootout, and Jonathan Toews countered for Chicago. After a pair of saves in the third series, Oshie deked twice around Nikolai Khabibulin and slid a forehander through from the crease.

Martin Havlat could have kept the Blackhawks in the game, but pushed his shot into Manny Legace's left pad to end the contest in the Blues' favor.

Patrick Kane tallied twice and Brian Campbell once for the Blackhawks. Khabibulin took the loss despite a 26-save performance.

The Blackhawks are 1-0-1 at home this year and will try to improve upon that mark in Quenneville's debut at the United Center.

Meanwhile, the Canucks have lost two of their last three games after beginning the season with two straight victories. Vancouver was last in action Friday in Buffalo and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Sabres. Thomas Vanek had a goal and a pair of assists, and Ales Kotalik scored twice to lift Buffalo.

Ryan Kesler and Steve Bernier each scored for Vancouver. Goalie Roberto Luongo was given the night off, and backup Curtis Sanford posted a lackluster performance in his absence, allowing five goals on 31 shots.

Tonight marks the fifth stop on a six-game road trip for the Canucks, whose lone home test came in a season-opening victory over Calgary. Vancouver is 2-2-0 on the road this year and will complete the trek Tuesday night in Columbus.

Vancouver went 3-1 against the Blackhawks last year and has taken 10 of 12 and 15 of the last 18 meetings between the clubs. The Canucks have also been victorious in seven of their previous nine stops in the Windy City.
