Verona, NY (My Sportsbook) - Jeff Overton posted a three-under 69 on Friday to stay atop the leaderboard during the second round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship.

Overton, the first-round leader, finished 36 holes at eight-under 136 and he is one shot ahead at Atunyote Golf Club at Turning Stone Resort.

Tag Ridings shot a four-under 68 and is alone in second place at minus-seven. Young Australian Jason Day carded a three-under 69 and has third at six-under 138.

There were two hail stoppages on Friday that totaled just under 90 minutes. That wreaked enough havoc that some players were unable to complete the second round.

Players will return to the course at 8:45 a.m. (et) Saturday. The 36-hole cut will be made and the golfers will go off in threesomes off both the first and 10th tees in the third round.

Overton was solid with his iron play on Friday, hitting all 18 greens in regulation. The problem in round two was the flat stick. Overton needed 34 putts on Friday, but was satisfied overall with his performance.

"Didn't aim at a whole a lot of flags," admitted Overton. "Just wanted to hit some shots and work the ball into some holes, and was able to do that a couple times and made a couple birdies."

Overton did not get off to the sort of start one expects from a tournament leader. He three-putted the first green from 40 feet for a bogey, but atoned for the error with a birdie at the fourth.

Overton reached seven-under par for the championship thanks to back-to-back birdies at eight and nine. He birdied the par-five 12th to get to eight-under, but had 12 feet for birdie at No. 13.

Before he hit his approach, the horn sounded halting play.

When Overton came back, he missed that birdie chance. Hail halted play again when Overton was at 15, but this time his birdie opportunity was from 20 feet and he was already on the green. Overton missed that one and missed a five- footer for birdie at 17.

Despite the cold putter and colder conditions, Overton stayed atop the leaderboard and he needs a good week.

Actually, what Overton needs is a good check. With the Fall Finish in full swing, Overton is ranked 142nd on the money list and needs to get inside the top 125 to stay on the PGA Tour next year.

But, Overton knows that the easiest way to come back in 2009 is a visit to the winner's circle.

"You got to go out there and approach each week as your last tournament almost and just go after it," said Overton. "Generally if you're trying to win and you don't succeed you're going to finish top 10, top 20. If you go out there and try to make the cut and you don't succeed, you're just going to barely make it and finish last or something."

Ridings birdied two of his last four, including a 65-footer at the 15th. He closed with a seven-foot birdie putt at 18 to get within one stroke of the lead.

Day holed out for eagle on Thursday at the 14th hole. On Friday, he delighted the gallery at the par-three sixth when his six-iron tee ball landed just right of the hole and hopped in for an ace.

"We were undecided with the wind. We didn't know if it was coming left to right or right to left," said Day. "It hit the ground and bounced back in the hole and I started jumping everywhere."

Mark Hensby (69), Robert Allenby (68) and Charles Howell III (68) are knotted in fourth place at five-under 139.

Dustin Johnson (68), Brad Elder (69), Brian Davis (69) and Kyle Thompson (69) share seventh place at minus-four.

Defending champion Steve Flesch appears to be safe for the cut line. He shot a one-over 73 on Friday to finish at three-over 147. The cut could be either plus-three or plus-four depending on how the round ends Saturday morning.
