(My Sportsbook) - The
Chicago White Sox try and get themselves back atop the AL Central standings this evening when they host the
Cleveland Indians in the first of three games at U.S. Cellular Field.
Chicago blew a five-run lead on Thursday to the Minnesota Twins, who swept the three-game series with a 7-6 win in 10 innings. The loss dropped the White Sox a half game back of the Twins in the division.
In the 10th, Nick Punto walked with one out, advanced to second on a Carlos Gomez groundout and moved to third when the ball eluded catcher A.J. Pierzynski in the dirt. Denard Span was intentionally walked before Alexi Casilla laced a single off Bobby Jenks (3-1) to center to drive in Punto and start the on-field celebration.
Orlando Cabrera homered for the White Sox, losers in six of their last eight games.
Minnesota starts a three-game set with the Kansas City Royals this evening at the Metrodome. If a half-game difference looms after Sunday, the White Sox would have to play a make-up contest at home against Detroit on Monday.
Hoping to get the White Sox back on track tonight will be 23-year-old lefty John Danks, who is 11-8 with a 3.20 ERA. Danks picked up the win on Sunday in Kansas City, as he scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings.
Danks lost to the Tribe the last time he faced them and is 1-3 lifetime with a 4.23 ERA in seven starts.
Cleveland will counter with rookie left-hander Scott Lewis, who has won all three of his big league starts. Lewis' latest win came on Sunday against Detroit, which managed three runs and eight hits off of him in five innings.
Lewis, who has never faced the White Sox, has pitched to a 1.42 ERA this season.
Cleveland enters this series on the heels of dropping three of four to the Boston Red Sox, including Thursday's 6-1 setback at Fenway Park. Jamey Carroll knocked in the lone run for the Indians, losers in three straight after a seven-game win streak.
Jeremy Sowers (4-9) gave up five runs on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout over six frames in the loss.
Chicago has won 10 of its 15 matchups with Cleveland this season.
