Giants try to even up home set with Rockies

(My Sportsbook) - Jonathan Sanchez will try to get the San Francisco Giants back on track tonight, when he takes the mound in the second test of a three- game series versus the Colorado Rockies at AT&T Park.

Sanchez has been struggling much like the Giants, who have lost six of their last eight games. He is only 1-7 over his last eight decisions and dropped his last start on September 17 at Arizona, allowing six runs in just 3 2/3 innings of his team's 7-6 loss. The left-hander fell to 9-11 with a 4.71 earned run average in 28 starts this season.

He is 1-1 in four starts against Colorado this season and 1-1 in 12 lifetime meetings, five of which have been starts, with the Rockies. Sanchez will try to beat the Rox at AT&T Park, where he is 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA in his last six appearances.

San Francisco opened this series with Tuesday's 9-4 setback, as National League Cy Young Award candidate Tim Lincecum suffered the loss after he surrendered six runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. Lincecum struck out nine and walked five in his second consecutive defeat.

Aaron Rowand posted two hits with a run scored and an RBI for the Giants.

The Rockies, meanwhile, halted a two-game skid with last night's win and won for the fourth time in six tries. Starter Ubaldo Jimenez allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts in six innings to record the win for Colorado, which halted a five-game road losing streak as well.

Seth Smith recorded three hits, including a home run, and finished with two RBI and two runs scored in the win, while Chris Iannetta and Joe Koshansky each knocked in two runs for the Rockies.

Colorado has a chance to post its first series triumph away from home tonight since winning two of three matchups at San Francisco from August 25-27.

Livan Hernandez will try to earn that series victory for the Rockies when he toes the rubber on Wednesday. Hernandez is 2-3 with an 8.37 ERA in seven starts with Colorado and won his previous outing on September 17 versus San Diego. He hurled five shutout innings of three-hit ball in a 1-0 victory.

The right-hander is 0-1 in two starts against San Francisco this season and 3-5 with a 3.18 ERA in 14 lifetime meetings with the Giants.

Colorado is 9-7 against the Giants this season, with a 4-3 mark at AT&T Park.
