Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - Kevin Kouzmanoff had two doubles and drove in three runs to give the
San Diego Padres a 6-2 victory to complete a three- game sweep of the
Washington Nationals.
Adrian Gonzalez homered and scored three times while Edgar Gonzalez added two more runs scored for the Padres, who have won three in a row following a two- game skid. Cha Seung Baek (6-10) allowed only one run on five hits in seven strong innings, with five strikeouts, to earn the win.
"(Baek) threw well. His hard cutter was effective to right- and left-handed hitters," Padres manager Bud Black said. "He had the slider going early and the change late."
Ryan Zimmerman homered and drove in both runs for the Nationals, losers of five straight. Odalis Perez (7-11) gave up three runs on five hits and a walk while tying a career-high with 11 strikeouts in taking the loss.
"I made a couple of mistakes in the first inning, but I was on top of my game after that. There were a lot of quality strikes in there," Perez said. "I had the fastball, change and slider working. Wil (Nieves) put up perfect targets, and the ump did an absolutely outstanding job calling balls and strikes."
The Padres went up early in the first. Edgar Gonzalez hit a one-out single and Adrian Gonzalez doubled him over to third. Kouzmanoff gave San Diego a 2-0 lead with a two-run double to left.
Adrian Gonzalez gave San Diego a three-run cushion in the sixth, launching his 35th homer of the year.
Zimmerman got the Nationals on the board in the home sixth with his 13th homer of the year, a solo shot to make it 3-1.
San Diego put the game away in the eighth. With runners on first and second and nobody out, Kouzmanoff hit his second double of the game to plate Edgar Gonzalez, who reached on a error, off Saul Rivera. Chase Headley hit an RBI single while Nick Hundley added a sacrifice fly for a 6-1 Padres advantage.
Zimmerman hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for Washington to cap the scoring at 6-2.
