St. Petersburg, FL (My Sportsbook) - Boston Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell has been playing with pain in his hip for more than two months, and recently revealed the injury to be a partially torn labrum. In a story on MLB.com posted early Tuesday morning, Lowell said he plans on having surgery in the offseason on the injury in his right hip, which has required him to have three cortisone shots over the past few months. Lowell, playing in the first year of a three-year contract, has seen his numbers decline since suffering the injury. The 34-year-old hit .297 with 13 homers and 57 RBI before the All-Star break, but has batted .224 with four homers and 16 RBI since. An 11-year veteran, Lowell is hitting .275 for the season, with 17 homers and 73 RBI, after his career year of 2007, when he batted .324 with 21 homers and 120 RBI and won the World Series MVP in Boston's four-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies.
