Jason Schmidt tossed a one-hitter and tied a career-high with 13 strikeouts in a 1-0 San Francisco victory last night. Schmidt outdueled Matt Clement, as the Giants ended a four-game losing streak. Schmidt, who only yielded an infield hit in the fifth and walked one, earned his fourth straight win. He also finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Pedro Feliz drove in the only run of the game for the Giants, who won for just the fourth time in 13 games. Kirk Rueter tries to rebound from a loss as he pitches tonight for the Giants. The 33-year-old lefthander threw 6 2/3 innings in a defeat to the Phillies last Thursday. Rueter has fashioned 65-32 career road record, which is the second- highest winning percentage among all active pitchers with at least 60 road decisions. Over his career, Rueter is 6-6 with a 3.04 ERA in 13 games versus the Cubs. |
