(My Sportsbook) - The National League West-leading
Los Angeles Dodgers will resume a 10-game road trip tonight with the first of three straight games against the
Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
Los Angeles is 4-2 so far on the trek and had its four-game winning streak come to an end with Sunday's 1-0 loss in 10 innings in the finale of a three- game set against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Hong-Chih Kuo was saddled with the loss after allowing Troy Tulowitzki's game-winning RBI hit in the 10th inning.
Dodgers starter Greg Maddux was perfect through the first 4 1/3 frames before allowing a single to Garrett Atkins, one of his two hits allowed over seven innings. The veteran right-hander struck out three and did not walk a batter. Angel Berroa had two hits for the Dodgers, who are 4 1/2 games ahead of Arizona in the NL West standings.
Hiroki Kuroda will handle pitching duties for Los Angeles on Monday and he is 8-10 with a 3.93 earned run average this season. Kuroda is 1-0 in his last two starts and recorded a no-decision the last time out on September 9 against the San Diego Padres. He allowed two runs and nine hits in six innings of a 6-2 win.
Kuroda, a right-hander, faced Pittsburgh for the first time in his career on April 14 this season and did not factor in the 6-4 loss. He was reached for three runs and seven hits in six innings of work.
Pittsburgh is riding some momentum after its three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend. In Sunday's 7-2 victory in the series finale, Nate McLouth went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and finished with two RBI and three runs scored in the first three-game sweep of St. Louis since August 11-13 of 2006 with a 7-2 victory.
Adam LaRoche went 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored once for the Pirates, who pulled off the sweep on the heels of a six-game skid. Brandon Moss also had two RBI in the win. Starter Jason Davis lasted just three innings and was touched for a run on three hits in the no-decision. T.J. Beam registered the win in relief after hurling three innings of one-run ball.
Bucos pitcher Ross Ohlendorf makes his third start of the season and is 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA. Ohlendorf last took the mound on September 9 against Houston, allowing six runs and nine hits in four innings to suffer the loss.
The right-handed Princeton product, who was acquired from the New York Yankees on July 26, has never faced Los Angeles.
LA won two of three games versus the Pirates at Chavez Ravine from April 14-16 this season. The Dodgers have won four of the last five meetings.
