Phils, Brewers play two at Citizens Bank Park

(My Sportsbook) - The Philadelphia Phillies have a chance to move into a tie atop the National League Wild Card standings with a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers today in a day/night doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park.

Philadelphia has won the first two tests of this set and the twinbill was made possible after Friday's contest was postponed due to inclement weather. The Phillies pulled within two games of the NL wild card-leading Brewers following Saturday's 7-3 victory behind a solid outing from starter Cole Hamels. Hamels allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings for the win and got a big lift from Jimmy Rollins, who ended with three hits, including a homer, two RBI and three runs scored.

Ryan Howard added to MLB-leading RBI total with a pair of runs driven in, giving him 131 on the season. He also leads the majors with 43 home runs. His average, however, is a pedestrian .243. Chase Utley had two hits and an RBI for the Phillies, who are 2 1/2 games behind the New York Mets in the NL East.

Joe Blanton makes his 11th start for the Phillies in the opener against the Brewers and is 2-0 with a 4.61 earned run average. Blanton, who was acquired via trade with Oakland in July, ended a string of six consecutive no-decisions the last time out on September 8 versus the Florida Marlins. He was reached for four runs and five hits in five innings of an 8-6 victory over the Fish.

The bulky right-hander, who is 7-12 with a 4.86 ERA with Oakland and Philadelphia this season, has never faced Milwaukee.

Milwaukee has lost two straight and five of six to lose grip on the wild card chase. In Saturday's loss in South Philly, Milwaukee starter Manny Parra was touched for five runs on seven hits and three walks in just 1 1/3 innings to absorb the loss. Jason Kendall had a two-run double for Milwaukee, which sits six games behind the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central standings.

Prince Fielder had a pair of hits in a losing cause for the Brewers, who will send Dave Bush to the mound in the first game, and he is 9-10 with a 4.23 earned run average in 27 games (26 starts) this season. The right-hander from Wake Forest is 0-1 in his previous two starts since going 4-0 in five trips to the mound. Bush did not record a decision in a 5-4 loss versus Cincinnati on September 8, as he gave up a pair of runs and seven hits in eight innings.

Bush, who is 3-6 on the road this season, will face the Phillies for the second time in 2008. He did not factor in the outcome of a 5-4 win over Philadelphia on April 23 at Miller Park despite surrendering four runs and eight hits in six innings of work. In five career starts against the Phillies, Bush is 0-0 with a 6.18 ERA.

Milwaukee starter Jeff Suppan will take the ball in the nightcap versus Philadelphia's Brett Myers. Suppan is 10-8 with a 4.63 ERA this season, while Myers owns a 9-11 mark and a 4.22 earned run average. Suppan is 3-5 in 11 career starts against the Phils.

Myers is 3-1 in seven career appearances (three starts) against the Brewers.

These two teams split a two-game set in Milwaukee in late April in the only previous meeting this year.
