Indians continue set with Royals

(My Sportsbook) - The Cleveland Indians try to continue their recent mastery of the Kansas City Royals this evening when the AL Central rivals resume a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium.

Cleveland has won its last four against the Royals and is 8-4 on the season against their division's cellar dwellers, including wins in five of the seven matchups in Kansas City.

That trend continued in Friday's opener, as Victor Martinez had two hits and two walks, helping Cleveland to a 9-3 win. Jamey Carroll and Asdrubal Cabrera each had two hits, a run scored and an RBI in the victory, the Indians' third in the last four games overall and their 10th straight away from home.

Cleveland has not won 11 in a row on the road since April 17-May 16, 2001. The club record is 12, set way back in 1922.

Starter Anthony Reyes pitched three shutout innings and gave up just one hit before leaving with soreness in his right elbow, while Edward Mujica (2-1) picked up the win after tossing two scoreless innings in relief.

Brandon Duckworth (2-1) was tagged with the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits and four walks in four-plus innings with a strikeout.

Jose Guillen drove in two runs with a pair of doubles for the Royals, who had their three-game winning streak ended.

Getting the call for the Indians tonight will be 25-year-old left-hander Zach Jackson, who was part of the deal that landed CC Sabathia in Milwaukee. Jackson suffered his first loss of the season on Sunday against Seattle, yielding six runs and seven hits in five innings, dropping him to 0-1, while raising his earned run average to 6.17.

Jackson received a no-decision against the Royals back on August 20 in his only other start against them. He gave up five runs (four earned) and seven hits in seven innings of his team's 8-5 win that day.

Kansas City will pin its hopes on righty Gil Meche, who opposed Jackson in that start and received a similar fate. However, he is 3-7 lifetime versus the Tribe with a 5.20 ERA in 16 starts.

Meche, who is 10-10 on the season with a 4.07 ERA, did not get a decision his last time out on Sunday against Detroit, as the Tigers managed just two runs and five hits in seven innings off of him in the Royals' 4-2 loss.
