Glendale, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt announced on Saturday that he has tabbed veteran quarterback Kurt Warner to start, beating out Matt Leinart. The Cardinals open their season on September 7 in San Francisco. The 37-year-old Warner, entering his 11th season in the NFL and his fourth with the Cardinals, completed 12-of-17 passes in the preseason for 142 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions with a passing rating of 95.7. Warner threw for 27 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 14 games -- 11 starts -- in 2007 after taking over for the injured Leinart. Leinart, 25, lost the job despite entering camp as the expected starter, and playing significantly more in the preseason. Entering his third year in the league, the USC product completed 28-of-45 passes for 354 yards, two touchdowns, three picks and a rating of 73.8. |
