LBs Feel Squeeze as Cardinals Make Cuts

Glendale, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Veteran linebackers Brandon Moore, Matt Stewart, and Joe Tafoya were among the 22 players released by the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, as the team pared its roster to the 53-player maximum.

Both Moore and Stewart were attempting to revive their careers in Arizona after stints with different teams.

Moore, who was cut by the 49ers earlier in the preseason, had played 88 games with San Francisco between 2002 and 2007, including 26 starts during that period. But the player who had 6.5 sacks just two seasons ago apparently couldn't make enough of an impression on head coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff.

Stewart had 60 starts as a member of the Browns and Falcons between 2001 and 2006, but couldn't catch on with Arizona after sitting out all of 2006 due to injury.

Tafoya, meanwhile, couldn't make the roster after starting seven games with the Cardinals a year ago. Tafoya, previously a backup with the Bears (2001-2003) and Seahawks (2005-06), posted 20 tackles and two sacks in 2007.

Also cut on Saturday were cornerback Michael Adams, cornerback Travarous Bain, defensive end Jason Banks, running back Steve Baylark, offensive lineman Kelly Butler, offensive lineman Peter Clifford, defensive tackle Keilen Dykes, linebacker Chris Harrington, offensive lineman Jasper Harvey, safety Dennis Keyes, wide receiver Lance Long, offensive lineman Carlton Medder, tight end Brent Miller, cornerback DeMario Minter, quarterback Anthony Morelli, wide receiver Jamaica Rector, center Pat Ross, tight end Alex Shor and running back Chris Vincent.

Notables among that group include Adams, who played in seven games with the Cardinals last season; Harrington, the team's sixth-round Draft choice out of Texas A&M this past April; and Rector, who appeared in two contests with the team a year ago.

Arizona opens its 2007 regular season on Sept. 7, when the Cardinals will travel to meet the San Francisco 49ers.
