Utrecht, Netherlands (My Sportsbook) - Four-time defending champions PSV Eindhoven opened defense of their title with a resounding 5-1 win over Utrecht on Saturday, while chief rivals Ajax were stunned 2-1 at Willem II in the debut for new manager Marco van Basten. Ibrahim Afellay and Danny Koevermans both scored two goals for PSV, while Nordin Amrabat netted the team's other goal. Rafael Uiterloo scored in stoppage time to prevent the home side from being shutout. It took PSV until right before halftime to crack the scoreboard, but a long- range effort from Afellay started the scoring binge. Utrecht defender Francis Dickoh then made a pair of mistakes that Amrabat and Koevermans converted into goals. Afellay and Koevermans then added a second goal to their respective tallies to make it 5-0 before Uiterloo's late strike. The day did not go quite so well for Van Basten as he saw his side concede a pair of second-half goals before Evander Sno was sent off in the 83rd minute. Ajax got off to a good start as Miralem Sulejmani scored in the 23rd minute, but Willem II responded with goals from Frank Demouge and Mehmet Akgun 18 minutes apart to spoil the debut of the former Dutch national team manager. Former England manager Steve McClaren watched his new team Twente concede a goal in the 84th minute to Andres Oper, helping Roda earn a 1-1 draw, while NEC recorded a 2-0 win over Graafschap courtesy of goals from Rutger Worm and Mark Otten in the last 15 minutes.
