Jacksonville, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran quarterback Todd Bouman on Saturday, also releasing backup linebacker Kenneth Pettway as part of the team's "cut-down day" maneuvers.

The 36-year-old Bouman posted a strong 2008 preseason, compiling a team-best 107.5 passer rating and throwing a pair of touchdown passes, but couldn't hold off Cleo Lemon for the primary backup job behind David Garrard.

Bouman has appeared in 43 regular season games as a member of the Vikings, Saints, and Rams, with six starts for his career.

Also getting trimmed on Saturday was Pettway, who appeared in 17 games as a member of the Jaguars over the past two seasons. The Grambling State product, who had three sacks in his Jacksonville career and contributed on special teams, was originally a seventh-round Draft choice of the Houston Texans in 2005.

Others released were tight end Chris Brown, defensive end Mkristo Bruce, tackle Andrew Carnahan, tight end Charles Davis, running back Ciatrick Fason, cornerback Isaiah Gardner, linebacker Tony Gilbert, cornerback Michael Grant, wide receiver Ryan Hoag, defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona, offensive lineman Pete McMahon, offensive lineman Drew Miller, cornerback Rashod Moulton, linebacker Lamar Myles, defensive end Bo Schobel, defensive back Trae Williams, and wide receiver D'Juan Woods.

Notables among that group include Carnahan, a 2007 seventh-round Draft choice; Fason, who played in 18 games with the Vikings in 2005-06; Gilbert, who appeared in 56 contests with the Jags between 2003 and 2006; Hoag, a contestant on the ABC series "The Bachelorette" this summer; Mahelona, a former active member of the Titans and Falcons; Schobel, who has 29 games of NFL experience with the Titans, Colts, and Cardinals, and Williams, a fifth- round Draft choice in this past April's Draft.

In other moves on Saturday, the Jaguars placed defensive back Chad Nkang and defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, while placing defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis (knee) on season-ending injured reserve.

The Jaguars will begin their season on Sept. 7, when they travel to meet the AFC South rival Tennessee Titans.
