Merseyside, England (My Sportsbook) - Everton learned Friday it will face Standard Liege in the UEFA Cup first round after being paired with the Belgian side that almost ended Liverpool's Champions League hopes earlier in the week.

Standard Liege, which won the Jupiler League last season, took Liverpool to overtime before losing its third qualifying round tie to a last-gasp Dirk Kuyt goal at Anfield on Wednesday, 1-0.

Liege took the plaudits for its battling display over two legs in the Champions League and will now return to Merseyside with a place in the group stages of the UEFA Cup up for grabs.

Elsewhere, the four other Premier League teams in the hat were all handed favorable draws.

Tottenham faces a trip to Poland after last year's last 16 side were pitted against Wisla Krakow.

Portsmouth will travel to Portugal to take on Vitoria SC, who finished third in their domestic league behind FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon last season.

Aston Villa's reward for qualifying via the InterToto Cup is a tie against Litex Lovech of Bulgaria.

Manchester City won its place in the competition via the Fair Play League and, after edging past Midtylland in the final qualifying round on Thursday, will take on AC Omonia of Cyprus.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Premier League's sole representatives, Motherwell, face a tricky two-legged encounter with French side Nancy.

The first legs of the ties will take place on Sept. 18, with the return encounters on Oct. 2.
