Snoqualmie, WA (My Sportsbook) - Scott Simpson fired a six-under 66 Saturday to move to 11-under-par 133, where he leads by two after 36 holes at the Boeing Classic at the TPC at Snoqualmie Ridge.
Simpson, who has just one Champions Tour win, owned the 36-hole lead for the first time in his tour career.
David Edwards managed a five-under 67 to move into second place at minus-nine. Mark Wiebe, who shared the lead after round one with Simpson, posted a three- under 69 and is tied with Tom Kite (67) in third at eight-under-par 136.
Simpson chipped in for birdie on the second to go with eight pars on the front nine. He made his move around the turn.
The 1987 U.S. Open champion rolled home a 25-footer for birdie on 10 and came right back with an eight-foot birdie putt at the 11th to move to eight-under. That put him in a logjam atop the leaderboard.
Simpson ran home another long birdie putt at 13 to take the outright lead and followed with a birdie from six feet out at 14 to move to minus-10.
After a par on the 15th, Simpson drained a 15-footer for birdie to move to 11- under. He parred the last two for the two-shot lead.
"I missed a little two-footer on eight today, a straight in two-footer, almost hit the hole," joked Simpson. "But since then I haven't missed a putt. You know, it's golf. Who knows sometimes."
Edwards parred his first three holes, then sank consecutive birdies from the fourth. After five straight pars around the turn, Edwards birdied the 11th and followed with another on 12 to get to eight-under.
The 52-year-old sank an 18-footer for birdie at the par-four 16th to move within one of the lead. He parred the last two to finish two back of Simpson.
Bruce Fleisher birdied the 18th to post four-under 68. That moved him into fifth place at seven-under-par 137. John Cook (66), Mark McNulty (68), Bruce Vaughan (66) and James Mason (69) are tied for sixth at minus-six.
