Lake Forest, IL (My Sportsbook) -
Chicago Bears quarterback Jim Miller will miss Sunday's game against the
New England Patriots with a flare-up of tendinitis in his right elbow and shoulder. Chris Chandler will instead make his third start in four games.
Miller returned to the starting lineup last week in Chicago's 19-13 loss to Philadelphia after missing games against Detroit and Minnesota. However, Miller sat out Friday's practice after experiencing swelling and pain following Thursday's throwing drills.
"Jim's arm was sore and we determined that he wouldn't throw [Friday], so we felt like it was in the best interests of everybody to make the decision," said Bears head coach Dick Jauron.
Chandler has thrown for a combined 339 yards on 31-of-50 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions in losses to Detroit and Minnesota.
"It's a tough situation, but it's what I'm here for, to try to go out and play," Chandler said. "I'll get another chance, so I'm looking forward to it."
Miller could be relegated to backup duties for the remainder of the season, although the Bears haven't looked that far down the road.
"It's just a question of soreness and his ability to throw the ball the way he wants to throw it and the way we need to have him throw it," Jauron said.
Miller has completed 57.7 percent of his passes for 1,422 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions this season.
The Bears head into this week's game against the Patriots with a record of just 2-6 and are losers of six in a row.
