Cleveland, OH (My Sportsbook) - Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Luke Hochevar was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a bruised rib cage. Hochevar left Tuesday's 9-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians with tightness in his right side. He felt the pain during his sixth-inning warmup pitches and left the game for good. He had an MRI on Wednesday and was taken for X-rays later in the afternoon, but results were not available. The first overall pick in the 2006 draft allowed four runs on seven hits to fall to 6-12 with a 5.51 earned-run average for the season. Josh Newman, who was optioned to Triple-A Omaha upon the acquisition of pitcher Kip Wells on Tuesday, was immediately recalled to take Hochevar's roster spot.
