Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - Troy Tulowitzki went 3-for-5, scored twice and drove in three runs, as the Colorado Rockies crushed the lowly Washington Nationals, 13-6, in the middle contest of a three-game set.

Each Colorado starter except for Matt Holliday recorded an RBI, but the left fielder did score three times. Despite the high-scoring affair, Tulowitzki and Ian Stewart had the only two extra-base hits for the Rockies, who have won three of their last four.

Livan Hernandez (11-9) snagged the win in spite of a poor pitching performance that saw the former Washington National yield six runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.

"He's that big, chubby guy you see at the company picnic who drinks all the beer, wins and takes all the trophies home at the end of the night," Colorado manager Clint Hurdle said of Hernandez. "He's just an athletic guy, he can do some things."

Ronnie Belliard went 3-for-4 and had three RBI for the Nats, who have lost nine consecutive games. Lastings Milledge went 3-for-4, scored twice and had an RBI in defeat, while Ryan Zimmerman also tallied an RBI.

John Lannan (6-12) was saddled with the loss as he was roughed up for eight runs on seven hits and four walks in four-plus innings. The lefty used 88 pitches in his time on the mound.

Colorado got on the board twice in the first inning. Willy Taveras singled before Holliday drew a walk. The runners then executed a double steal and Garrett Atkins put the Rockies on the board with a two-run single.

Consecutive singles from Milledge, Austin Kearns and Jesus Flores loaded the bases for Belliard with no outs in the second. He grounded back to Hernandez who attempted to go home with ball, but his errant throw hit Milledge on the back, which allowed all runners to reach base safely. Kory Casto then grounded into a run-scoring double play to tie the game.

Holliday walked with one gone in the third before Atkins singled to put runners on the corners. Brad Hawpe grounded out to plate Holliday and move Atkins to second, and Tulowitzki doubled to right to bring him home. Yorvit Torrealba closed out the frame's scoring with an RBI single, making it 5-2.

Holliday and Atkins opened the fifth with consecutive walks off Lannan. After a brief coaching visit to the mound, Hawpe belted an RBI single and both runners moved into scoring position as Milledge had trouble scooping the ball in center.

Garrett Mock was then summoned from the 'pen and Tulowitzki greeted him with a two-run single. Torrealba kept it going with a walk before Stewart and Hernandez connected on RBI singles. Clint Barmes then earned a free pass and Taveras brought Stewart around with a sac fly to left. Holliday went down swinging and Atkins flied out to end the onslaught, but the damage had been done as Colorado brought 11 batters to the plate and scored six times to make it 11-2.

Washington rallied in the sixth. Emilio Bonifacio opened the stanza with a single and crossed home two batters later as Zimmerman laced a double down the line in right. Zimmerman took third as Hernandez uncorked a wild pitch and scored as Milledge drove a double off the wall in right-center. Kearns then walked and Flores singled to load the bases before a Belliard double scored two runs, making it 11-6.

"I feel very good," Hernandez said. "I felt a little tired in the sixth inning. It's difficult to pitch when you are tired. I think I'm not used to running the bases. I had a bad inning, but that's OK, we won the game."

Luis Ayala gave up a double to Stewart in the ninth which scored Torrealba. Pinch-hitter Seth Smith put runners on the corners as he reached on Zimmerman's throwing error, and Barmes then chipped in an RBI single to make it 13-6.

Game Notes

Hernandez pitched 3 1/2 seasons for the Washington/Montreal franchise earlier in his career and recorded a pair of 15-win campaigns during his tenure there. He was traded by the Nationals to the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 7, 2006...Washington did beat the Rockies three times in four tries at Coors Field earlier this month, but Colorado is 14-6 in the series since 2006...Prior to the game Colorado signed pitcher Oscar Villarreal to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
