Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - United States mens national team coach Bob Bradley named a 17-player roster Thursday that will travel to face Guatemala in the team's first game of the semifinal round of qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.
Landon Donovan, who has played in 20 World Cup qualifiers, highlights the U.S. roster, which includes all 17 players from the team's 8-0 win over Barbados in a first leg, second-round qualifying match on June 15. The U.S. won the series on aggregate, 9-0, to advance.
Goalie Tim Howard will return to the United States' lineup after missing both qualifiers against Barbados due to a back injury.
"We are excited to begin the next phase of qualifying," Bradley said. "There are no easy games, and we know that Guatemala is a very difficult team to play against at home."
The United States is 10-4-5 lifetime against Guatemala and is currently riding a six-match shutout streak against the Chapines. The teams have met eight times overall in World Cup qualifying, with the U.S. holding an unbeaten 4-0-4 mark in the series.
Kickoff at Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City is set for 10 p.m. (ET).
