Sparta, KY (My Sportsbook) - Scott Dixon won the pole for Saturday's Meijer Indy 300 at the Kentucky Speedway. The No.9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver circled the 1.5-mile oval four times in 1 minute, 37.3293 seconds (218.968 m.p.h.). The pole was Dixon's sixth of the season and the 13th of his IndyCar Series career. He is now tied with Greg Ray for second on the series' all-time pole winners list. "Our race car is very similar to our qualifying setup," Dixon said. "Hopefully we can lead a lot of laps, gain a lot of points and close in on that championship." With four races remaining in the 2008 IndyCar Series season, six drivers remain mathematically eligible for the championship, but Dixon is clearly in the driver's seat for the title with a comfortable 65-point lead over Helio Castroneves. Dixon has five victories so far this season, including wins in two of the last three races. He has been atop the standings since winning the Indianapolis 500 in May. Starting alongside Dixon will be Vitor Meira who recorded a time of 1:37.5783. Dan Wheldon (1:37.6127) and Hideki Mutoh (1:37.8982) will start in row two. Castroneves will roll off sixth. Danica Patrick did not make a qualifying attempt after she made contact with the wall in turn two during practice. Patrick was not injured. She will start from the rear of the field. "We were running well in both practice sessions and then something broke causing us to hit the wall," Patrick said. "We decided not to qualify. It's not ideal, but it gives the guys more time to get the back-up car ready for tomorrow." The green flag is scheduled to drop on Saturday around 6:30 p.m. (et).
