Indianapolis, IN (My Sportsbook) - The IndyCar Series released its 2009 schedule with two new tracks added to the lineup.
The Grand Prix of Long Beach will run for the first time on April 19th in Long Beach, CA. The 35-year-old track has hosted F1, CART and Champ Car events in the past.
The series will also debut in Toronto on July 12th. The Indy Toronto will be the first of back-to-back temporary course events in Canada with Edmonton scheduled for July 26.
There will be a considerable amount of shifting in next year's schedule compared to 2008. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will move from July to August 9th, while the Kentucky Speedway will move back one week to August 1st, allowing a week off to break up what was six consecutive weeks of racing this year.
The Raceway at Belle Isle Park and the Chicagoland Speedway are exchanging weekends, with Chicago running night-time on August 29th, and the temporary street event in Detroit scheduled for September 6th.
Due to more favorable weather conditions, the Twin Ring Motegi in Japan will move from April to September.
The 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 24th.
The series-opener will run through the streets of St. Petersburg, FL on April 5th, with the season finale moving to the Homestead-Miami Speedway on October 11th. Homestead had been the season-opening race since 2002.
The 2009 season will be extended a month longer than the previous two seasons.
Next year, the series will return to Kansas, Milwaukee, Texas, Iowa, Richmond, Watkins Glen and Sonoma, CA at around the same time as on the 2008 schedule.
