Chateauroux, France (My Sportsbook) - Great Britain's Mark Cavendish sprinted to a win at the end of Stage 5, while Germany's Stefan Schumacher held on to the overall lead in the Tour de France on Wednesday. Cavendish won a late sprint to take the Tour's longest stage, edging Oscar Freire of Spain and Germany's Erik Zabel to take the level, 144-mile course from Cholet to Chateauroux. Cavendish finished in five hours, 27 minutes, and 52 seconds. Schumacher finished 26th, and holds a 12-second lead over Luxembourg's Kim Kirchen and Britain's David Millar in the overall results. The German racer won Tuesday's time trial, and his Stage 4 win vaulted him past France's Romain Feillu and into first place overall in the Tour. Kirchen finished 45th on Wednesday, while Millar came in 50th. Feillu, who finished 13th in Stage 5, has slipped to 41st overall, three minutes and seven seconds back of Schumacher.
