Sabathia set to make Brewers debut versus Rockies

(My Sportsbook) - Milwaukee Brewers fans will get their first taste of newly-acquired pitcher CC Sabathia, who will make his debut tonight in the second test of a four-game series versus the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park.

In an effort to try and make a run at the NL Central crown, Sabathia was officially acquired on Monday from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for minor league prospects. The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner was dealt for a package that included Milwaukee's top prospect, left fielder Matt LaPorta.

The left-handed Sabathia has a record of 6-8 with a 3.83 earned run average this season, but is 6-5 with a 2.16 mark since April 22. Last season, Sabathia went 19-7 with a 3.21 ERA while pitching a league-high 241 innings to capture the Cy Young Award.

In four career starts against Colorado, Sabathia is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA.

Milwaukee was fresh off a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates before suffering a 4-3 loss to the Rockies in Monday's series opener. Price Fielder hit a two-run homer, his 17th of the season, and Corey Hart ended with a pair of hits for the Brewers, who are four games behind the Cubs for the lead in the NL Central.

Seth McClung went just 4 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts to absorb the loss for Milwaukee. The Brewers are 3-1 so far on a 10-game homestand and 28-14 at Miller Park this season.

Colorado has won six of its last seven games, and opened a seven-game road trip on a good note. It improved to 13-31 as the guest this season after Monday's 4-3 triumph, as Matt Holliday ended 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in to lead the charge. Holliday has hit safely in 11 straight games.

Starter Ubaldo Jimenez scattered three hits, struck out seven and walked five batters in seven scoreless innings to earn the victory. Brian Fuentes later tossed a perfect ninth to collect his 14th save.

The Rockies will send Mark Redman to the hill on Tuesday, and he is 2-3 with a 7.05 ERA in eight games (seven starts) this season. Redman is winless (0-2) over the past five outings and did not record a decision the previous time out on July 3 versus Florida.

Redman held the Marlins to a pair of runs on six hits over six frames. The left-hander has enjoyed success throughout his career against Milwaukee, sporting a 6-2 mark with a 2.49 earned run average in nine career starts.

Colorado won two of three games versus the Brewers at home from June 6-8, and has won seven of the last 10 meetings in the series.
