Omaha, NE (My Sportsbook) - Steve Susdorf went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI, as Fresno State batted its way to a staggering 19-10 win over Georgia in the second game of the College World Series finals.

Georgia used an eighth-inning rally to take Monday's opening game of the best- of-three series. But Fresno State's victory Tuesday forces a third game, scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. (et), to decide the championship.

Since 2003, when the College World Series championship switched to a three- game series format, only one team won the first game and lost the series -- North Carolina in 2006, when it lost to Oregon State.

Fresno State pounded out 19 hits -- Danny Muno went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI, while Gavin Hedstrom, Erik Wetzel, Alan Ahmady, Tommy Mendonca, Steve Detwiler and Jordan Ribera each had two.

Wetzel drove in three, while Mendonca blasted a three-run home run for Fresno State, which became the first school in College World Series history to score more than 16 runs twice in the same tournament. Fresno State topped Rice, 17-5, in its opening game.

Fresno State starter Justin Miller lasted just 2 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and four walks. Holden Sprague took over and gave up five more runs -- three earned -- on eight hits, but got the win. Jake Hower tossed three scoreless innings of relief to close out the game.

Georgia, on the other hand, used seven pitchers. Starter Nick Montgomery gave up five runs in 2 1/3 frames, while Stephen Dodson followed and took the loss after allowing five runs in one inning of work.

Georgia's offense did its part by collecting 15 hits. Ryan Peisel and David Thoms each had three, while Rich Poythress went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Gordon Beckham had two hits and two RBI.

Early on, it looked like Georgia might pull away to a win. A Joey Lewis single drove in two and boosted the school's lead to 3-0 after the first inning, and a run each in the second and third made it 5-0.

But Fresno State countered with a six-run bottom of the third to completely change the course of the game. With the bases loaded and one out, Montgomery unleashed a wild pitch to allow Hedstrom to score.

It also put the other runners in scoring position and, after a walk to Wetzel, Susdorf punched a single through the right side to drive in two and make it a 5-3 game.

Dodson came in at that point and got Ahmady to pop up for the second out. But Mendonca came up next and launched the ball deep to right field, beyond the first section of seats in the bleachers to thrust Fresno State in front, 6-5.

Dodson got out of the inning without further damage, and an RBI single from Beckham in the top of the fourth tied the game. But in the home fourth Fresno State batted around for the second inning in a row and added five more runs.

Muno hit a deep fly ball off the wall in right-center field for a two-RBI triple, then scored as a liner from Wetzel glanced off Beckham's glove at short. Then, with the bases loaded and two out, Ryan Overland hit a short fly to left field that fell thanks to a communication gaffe, boosting Fresno State's lead to 11-6.

A four-run fifth put the winners in front 15-6, and though Georgia countered with four runs in the top of the seventh, Fresno State put three more runners across home in the bottom half, and the game was never in question from there.

It was the second time in the CWS Fresno State has faced elimination and come away with a victory. The school topped North Carolina in a tie-breaker game on Sunday to advance to the finals series against Georgia, the No. 8 team in the nation.

Fresno State has beaten long odds all season. The school finished the regular season with a 33-27 record, but swept through the WAC Tournament to become a fourth seed in the Long Beach Regional. There, Fresno State knocked off 11th- ranked Long Beach State and sixth-ranked San Diego, advancing to the Super Regional, where it topped third-ranked Arizona State to become the first fourth-seed to ever reach the College World Series.

After beating fifth-ranked Rice, Fresno State went on to eventually eliminate second-ranked North Carolina on Sunday, and the magical ride looked like it might continue with a late rally in Monday's contest against Georgia.
