Fort Collins, CO (My Sportsbook) - Colorado State has signed football coach Sonny Lubick to a new five-year contract, which will keep him at the school through at least the 2006 season. The 65-year-old Lubick is in his 10th season coaching the Rams. Colorado State is ranked 24th in the Associated Press poll and has an 8-2 record this season, including a 4-0 mark in the Mountain West Conference. "I am honored, humbled and pleased with this new contract," said Lubick. "I am excited what the administration - Dr. Yates and Jeff Hathaway - have done for me and for our football program. They were more than willing to show their continued commitment toward myself and our team. Hopefully, we can return that commitment and continue the growth and success of our program." The Rams have been to six bowl games during Lubick's tenure at the school, during which time he has compiled an 82-36 record. Colorado State has won its last two bowl games, beating North Texas in the New Orleans Bowl last year and edging Louisville in the Liberty Bowl following the 2000 season. The Rams have won or shared five conference titles since 1994. Lubick was the defensive coordinator at Miami-Florida from 1988-92 and before that he was an assistant at Stanford from 1985-88. He was also the offensive coordinator at Colorado State from 1982-84 and spent time at Montana State before that. Colorado State's next game is November 16 against San Diego State. Because they already have eight wins, the Rams are bowl eligible for this season.
