Cameron blasts Brew Crew past Twins

Milwaukee, WI (My Sportsbook) - Mike Cameron hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Minnesota Twins, 4-2, in the finale of a three-game interleague series at Miller Park.

Jason Kendall finished with three hits and drove in a run, and Russell Branyan knocked in a run for the Brewers, who salvaged one game in the series and have won four of their last seven games.

Seth McClung (4-3) had a quality start, giving up only two runs on four hits while striking out four and not walking a batter over six frames. Salomon Torres pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his eighth save of the season.

"He did a nice job again," Brewers manager Ned Yost said about McClung. "Very impressive, because he's changed his style a little bit from what we've seen in the past. He is working fast. He's on the attack, pitching to contact and does what catcher Jason Kendall tells him to do."

Jason Kubel had a solo home run for the Twins, while Alexi Casilla drove in a run for Minnesota, which despite the loss, has won three of its last five.

Scott Baker (2-2) was the hard-luck loser, after turning in a solid six-inning outing. The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits, while striking out nine and walking a pair.

He became the first pitcher in franchise history to strike out four batters in an inning. During the third, he fanned Ryan Braun to start off the frame, then set down Prince Fielder, who reached first base when the ball got away from catcher Mike Redmond. Baker then struck out Branyan and Cameron looking.

Milwaukee wasted little time, getting on the board in the first. With runners on first and second and two down, Branyan's lined single back up the middle brought home Braun. The Brewers were looking for more, but with the bases loaded, Kendall struck out swinging to end the frame.

Kubel's solo homer to center off a 1-2 fastball by McClung in the fifth, tied the contest at 1-1.

Brendan Harris started off the top of the sixth inning with a base hit and took second on Baker's sacrifice bunt. After Carlos Gomez singled, putting runners on the corners with one down, Casilla's sac fly to left scored Harris to put the Twins up 2-1.

The lead was short-lived as Branyan drew a lead-off walk and scored when Cameron followed with a two-run homer to left, giving the Brewers a 3-2 advantage.

"We got a lead for Baker and then a four pitch walk and a home run to give it back up and that's never a good thing," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. We battled, we just didn't have enough offense. It's disappointing. We had a chance to finish off the series, just didn't get there."

Milwaukee got a little insurance in the eighth when Cameron singled with one out, stole second and scored on Kendall's base hit to center. The Brewers were looking for more, but with the bases loaded and two outs, Gabe Kapler was called out on strikes to end the inning.

Torres was brought on for the ninth and retired the heart of the Twins order to preserve the win.
