Tempe, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Georgia, Florida State, North Carolina, Rice and Miami all advanced to the College World Series with wins on Sunday, while LSU and Fresno State forced decisive third games in their Super Regionals for Monday.
The top-seeded Hurricanes beat Arizona, 4-2, to win the Coral Gables Super Regional. Yonder Alonso homered and Enrique Garcia pitched six strong innings as Miami rebounded from a 6-3, 11-inning loss in Game 1 to win the final two and advance to Omaha.
Georgia exploded for nine first-inning runs, and Gordon Beckham homered twice as the Bulldogs pounded North Carolina State 17-8 to win the Athens Super Regional and advance to the College World Series for the third time in five years. North Carolina State was denied its first trip to the College World Series since 1968.
The Tar Heels cruised into Omaha thanks to a 14-4 win over Coastal Carolina, sweeping the Cary Super Regional. UNC scored six times in the second and led 12-0 on the way to the win, and a third consecutive trip to Nebraska. North Carolina has lost in the finals the last two years.
Adam Zornes' two-run homer in the eighth inning was the big blow as Rice edged Texas A&M, 6-5, to sweep the Houston Super Regional and lock up its third straight trip to the College World Series.
Jack Rye belted a three-run homer and Tommy Oravetz hit a three-run double as the Seminoles pounded Wichita State, 11-4, to head to Omaha for the first time since 2000. Florida State rebounded from a Game 1 loss to win the Tallahassee Super Regional.
A day after their 23-game winning streak came to an end, LSU came back from 7-2 deficit and forced a third game in the Baton Rouge Super Regional with a 9-7 win over UC-Irvine. The Tigers scored five times in the ninth to cap the comeback over the Anteaters. Game 3 is slated for Monday.
Fresno State forced a decisive third game in the Tempe Super Regional with an 8-6 victory over Arizona State. Gavin Hedstrom belted the go-ahead grand slam in the fourth inning for the Bulldogs. Arizona State had the bases loaded in the eighth, but Ike Davis hit into a force play.
The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a bloop RBI single from Hedstrom and Fresno State escaped a jam in the ninth. Arizona State had runners on second and third, but couldn't score as Raoul Torrez grounded out and then Greg Bordes flied out to end the game.
