Montreal, Canada (My Sportsbook) - McLaren's Lewis Hamilton led every session en route to winning the pole for Formula One's Grand Prix of Canada. The No.22 McLaren circled the 2.710-mile, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve road course located in the middle of the St. Lawrence river in one minute, 17.886 seconds.
The pole victory was Hamilton's second of the season and seventh of his F1 career.
Starting on the front row with Hamilton will be BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica who posted a time of 1:18.498.
Defending World Champion Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso will make up row two.
Hamilton won the first session, which eliminated Sebastien Bourdais, Adrian Sutil, Giancarlo Fisichella, Jenson Button and Sebastien Vettel. Vettel missed qualifying after a crash in Saturday morning's final practice. The German driver put his Toro Rosso into the Turn 4 wall. He will be allowed to start tomorrow's race from pit lane.
The Englishman also took the second session, while Timo Glock, David Coulthard and Jarno Trulli were among those dropped.
Robert Kubica briefly grabbed the top spot from Hamilton in Q3, but the McLaren driver immediately took it back as the checkered flag flew.
Hamilton, the second-year driver, leads all drivers with 38 points. But his margin over defending World Champion Kimi Raikkonen is a scant three points.
Raikkonen's Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa is just four points back despite finishing out of the points in the first two events. Since then he won twice and has been on the podium in all four events to chop into Hamilton's lead.
Behind Hamilton, Raikkonen and Massa is the surprise of the season - Robert Kubica of BMW Sauber. The Polish driver has scored points in five consecutive races and sits just six points behind Hamilton.
With the demise of the United States Grand Prix, this is the only visit by Formula One to North America. The race begins on Sunday at 1 p.m. (et).
