Singh shoots 63 for Bank Austria lead

Vienna, Austria (My Sportsbook) - Jeev Milkha Singh fired an eight-under 63 on Saturday to take a four-shot lead after two rounds of the Bank Austria GolfOpen.

One of six co-leaders after the first round was finally played Friday, Singh distanced himself Saturday with a flawless round that included six birdies and an eagle on his last hole. He was at 15-under-par 127 overall.

Because the first round was washed out on Thursday -- and with bad weather forecast for this weekend -- the tournament was shortened to 54 holes. Which means Singh will only have to protect his lead for 18 more holes to claim his third European Tour win.

"It's a great position, but I won't get ahead of myself," said Singh. "I just want to focus on my process and routine and see what comes my way."

Simon Wakefield shot a six-under 65 and moved into a distant second place at 11-under 131. Mark Brown matched Singh's 63 and vaulted from a tie for 42nd place into a share of third with Peter Fowler (67) at 10-under 132.

They were the only players within five shots of Singh.

Already in good position for the second-round lead, Singh rolled in a 35-foot eagle putt on his last hole, No. 9 at Fontana Golf Club, to move to 15-under for a four-shot cushion.

"I just told myself to put a good stroke on it," said Singh. "And it looked pretty good all the way through. It was the perfect way to end a great round."

The putt gave Singh his best score since he also shot a 63 in the second round of the 2006 TCL Classic. He said it had been probably 12 years since he went 15-under through the first 36 holes of a tournament.

"When you shoot 15-under for two days, you just pocket that," said Singh. "You put it in your memory bank."

Singh, 36, was the first Indian golfer to become a member of the European Tour and the second to win one of its tournaments. He claimed both of his victories in 2006.

The stars have aligned for win No. 3.

"I'm very fortunate that the tournament's come down to 54 holes," said Singh. "The first two rounds have been great for me, and we'll see what happens tomorrow."

The cut line fell at two-under 140 with 70 players moving on to the weekend. Defending champion Richard Green was among those who missed the cut.
