Lubbock, TX (My Sportsbook) - Texas Tech head baseball coach Larry Hays announced Monday that he is retiring from the post he has held for the past 22 years. Hays, who is the fourth-winningest baseball coach in NCAA history with 1,509 victories, will remain with the school in a developmental role. During his tenure, the Red Raiders won a pair of regular-season conference titles, the Southwest Conference in 1995 and Big 12 in 1997, while taking home the SWC tourney in 1996 and Big 12 tourney two years later. He also guided the team to nine NCAA Tournament appearances. Prior to arriving at Tech in 1987, Hays spent 16 years as head coach with Lubbock Christian University where he departed the school's all-time leader with 695 wins. Dan Spencer, the team's associate head coach, will be formally introduced to take over for Hays once the details of his contract are ironed out.
