Fullerton, CA (My Sportsbook) - Miami-Florida, North Carolina and Arizona State all advanced to the Super Regionals with victories on Sunday.
Ryan Jackson and Dennis Raben homered as the Hurricanes won the Coral Gables Regional with an 11-2 victory over Ole Miss. It's the 24th Regional championship for the top-seeded Hurricanes in 37 appearances. Lefty Eric Erickson held Ole Miss to six hits and two runs in seven innings.
Next up for the Hurricanes will be Arizona, which won the Ann Arbor Regional thanks to a 5-3 victory over Kentucky on Sunday. Eric Berger had a career-high 11 strikeouts in the victory. The Wildcats advanced to their second-ever Super Regional appearance an will play a best-of-three series at Miami next weekend.
The Tar Heels, losers to Oregon State in the College World Series final the previous two years, topped UNC-Wilmington, 7-3, on Sunday to win the Cary Regional. Mark Fleury belted a three-run homer for North Carolina.
Next up for UNC will be Conway, SC Regional champion Coastal Carolina next weekend in suburban Raleigh. Coastal Carolina rolled over East Carolina, 24-11, Sunday. With the win, the Chanticleers advanced to the Super Regionals for the first time in program history as well as reached the 50-win mark for the third time in the last four seasons.
Arizona State throttled Oklahoma, 12-0, on Sunday to win the Tempe Regional. The Sun Devils' next opponent will be either San Diego or Fresno State, as those two team meet for the championship of the Long Beach Regional Monday night.
Wichita State advanced to its second straight Super Regional with an 11-7 come from behind win over Oklahoma State in 10 innings Sunday night. Wichita State, winners of the Stillwater Regional, will next play either Florida State, the nation's No. 4 seeded team, or Tulane, as those squads battle Monday night for the Tallahassee Regional title.
Rice won its regional with a 7-4 win over Texas Sunday. The Owls, who advanced to the Super Regionals for a fourth consecutive year, are seeded sixth nationally. They will play the winner of the College Station Regional, which will be decided Monday night between Houston and Texas A&M.
LSU is on its way to the Super Regionals following an 11-4 triumph over Southern Miss Sunday night. Designated hitter Blake Dean broke open a close game with a bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning as the Tigers won their 23rd straight game, setting a Southeastern Conference record.
The Tigers will host UC Irvine in Super Regional play next weekend at Alex Box Stadium in the best-of-three series. UC Irvine captured the Lincoln Regional Sunday night. Bryce Stowell struck out a career-high 13 batters and Sean Madigan knocked in a career-high five runs as the Anteaters defeated Oral Roberts, 8-0.
North Carolina State edged South Carolina, 2-1, Sunday night to win the Raleigh Regional. Next up for the Wolfpack will be the winner of the Athens Regional, as Georgia faces Georgia Tech in the final Monday night.
Stanford and Pepperdine will play for the Palo Alto Regional championship Monday. Stanford won twice on Sunday, beating UC Davis, 8-4, and then crushing Pepperdine, 13-1. The winner of that game Monday will play either UCLA or Cal State Fullerton in the Super Regionals. The Titans won twice on Sunday, including a late night victory over the Bruins, 11-8, to set up a third meeting between the teams on Monday in the Fullerton Regional.
