Indianapolis, IN (My Sportsbook) - Sixty-four teams with aspirations for Omaha and the College World Series now know their destination and regional opponents, as the NCAA Division I
baseball committee announced the tournament field on Monday for its annual championship.
The national top eight seeds are Miami (Fla.) (47-8), North Carolina (46-12), Arizona State (45-11), Florida State (48-10), Cal State Fullerton (37-19), Rice (42-13), LSU (43-16-1) and Georgia (35-21-1).
Defending champion Oregon State was left out of the field.
The Southeastern Conference heads the class with nine teams, followed by the Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12 with six apiece. The Pac-10 and Conference USA will be represented by five teams and the Big West will send four to the tourney.
The field is full of fresh faces, as 26 of the teams did not make the tournament last season. First-time participants include UC Davis, Dallas Baptist, Lipscomb and Mount St. Mary's.
The list of favorites, however, include powerhouses Miami-Florida and Florida State, making their 36th and 31st straight appearances, respectively.
Each regional of four teams will play a double-elimination tournament. Regionals are scheduled from May 30 to June 2, with eight teams eventually advancing to the College World Series, which begins play on Friday, June 14, at Rosenblatt Stadium.
