Francoeur, Braves pound Mets

Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - Jeff Francoeur returned to the Braves lineup with a bash, going 3-for-4 with a homer and driving in four runs, as Atlanta continued to batter the Mets, this time posting an 11-4 victory at Turner Field.

Chipper Jones smashed his 398th career homer, but left the game with a bruised right shin after being hit by a pitch from Scott Schoeneweis in the seventh inning. Brian McCann had three hits, two RBI and scored three times for the Braves, winners of four in a row and owners of a 19-5 home record. Mark Teixeira went 3-for-5 with three RBI and scored twice, part of Atlanta's 14- hit attack.

Francoeur had his streak of 370 consecutive games played broken Tuesday night when he was held out of the lineup for the nightcap of a doubleheader sweep, but he started in right field on Wednesday and was the driving force in the third contest of the four-game series. He finished a double shy of the cycle.

Jair Jurrjens (5-3) allowed five hits and two runs -- one earned -- over seven innings for the Braves, who are 5-0 at home this season against their NL East rival.

David Wright and Carlos Beltran each had two hits and an RBI for the Mets, who have fallen on hard times after a two-game sweep of the Yankees over the weekend. New York, which went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position, has been outscored 23-7 in the current set.

Mike Pelfrey (2-5) struggled as the right-hander was charged with eight hits and six runs in four-plus innings. Pelfrey has lost five straight starts and is winless over the past six trips to the hill.

Wright singled in Jose Reyes in the third inning, but the Braves came back with a three-spot in the bottom of the inning, thanks in part to a fielding blunder from second baseman Luis Castillo.

Jones walked with two outs and then Teixeira hit a soft chopper to Castillo, but he hesitated on the throw to first and Teixeira was safe. McCann then roped a two-run double to right-center and Francoeur followed with a stand-up triple high off the wall in left-center.

Jones, hitting .410 this season, led off the fifth with a homer to center, and later in the inning Francoeur singled in a run and Gregor Blanco added a sacrifice fly.

It became 8-1 in the sixth when McCann singled with two outs and Francoeur followed with a two-run homer to center.

A throwing error by shortstop Omar Infante allowed Castillo to score in the seventh, but Teixeira smacked a three-run double in the bottom of the inning.

Beltran doubled in a run in the eighth and scored on a Carlos Delgado groundout.

Game Notes

Atlanta stranded 13 runners, including leaving the bases full in the eighth against Billy Wagner...Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar and Mets outfielder Ryan Church, who were both involved in a violent collision on the final play of the nightcap Tuesday, sat out...Mets left fielder Moises Alou departed the game in the bottom of the third inning due to a cramp in his left calf...Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez, on the disabled list due to a strained left hamstring, left the team to be with his ailing father in the Dominican Republic...Former President Jimmy Carter was in attendance...Atlanta leads the season series, 6-2...Johan Santana (5-2) will start for the Mets Thursday night, while Tim Hudson (6-3) pitches for Atlanta.
