Durango, Mexico (My Sportsbook) - Cristian Mijares scored a 12-round split
decision over Venezuelan veteran Alexander Munoz to unify the WBC and WBA
super flyweight titles Saturday night.
Mijares (35-3-2), who held the WBC belt going into the bout, won by scores of
116-111 and 115-112 from two of the judges, while Munoz (32-3) was a 115-113
victor on the third scorecard.
The 26-year-old Mijares has won his last two fights via split decision, and
the Mexican southpaw is unbeaten in his last 25 fights. A native of Durango,
Mijares is 24-0-1 since dropping a 10-round decision to Jose Alfredo
Tirado in 2002.
