Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - Johan Santana pitched 7 2/3 strong innings,
survived three Yankees home runs, and the
New York Mets held on for a 7-4 win
in the opener of a rain-shortened "Subway Series" at Yankee Stadium. Friday's
game between the clubs was postponed due to rain, allowing the Yankees
to start Andy Pettitte against the Mets ace. Santana (5-2) got the best of
the matchup, however, holding the Yankees to four runs on seven hits with
five strikeouts and two walks. David Wright went 3-for-5 with a two-run
homer, and Jose Reyes also homered for the Mets, who had dropped three of
four entering play. Billy Wagner came on and got the last four outs,
surviving a two-on, no-outs situation in the ninth to pick up his ninth save.
Derek Jeter went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Yankees, who have
dropped four of five to fall three games under .500. Jason Giambi and Bobby
Abreu also homered for the Bronx Bombers. Pettitte (3-5) was touched for
three runs on seven hits in six innings, fanning seven and walking two.
Final Score: St. Louis 9, Tampa Bay 8 (10 innings)
St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - Ryan Ludwick belted two home runs,
including the game-ending solo shot in the 10th, handing the St. Louis
Cardinals a 9-8 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in the second of a three-game
interleague matchup. With one out and the bases empty, Ludwick belted a high
fly ball to just left of dead center that cleared the wall for the game-
winner, stemming a two-game slide for the Cardinals, who had dropped five of
six overall before Saturday. It was the second solo homer of the day for
Ludwick, who finished with three runs batted in thanks to a bases-loaded walk.
Ryan Franklin (2-1) picked up the win for two scoreless innings of relief,
after starter Adam Wainwright survived 12 hits over 5 2/3 innings, somehow
holding the Rays to only four runs. Aaron Miles went 4-for-5 and scored twice
for the Cardinals. Dan Wheeler (0-3) gave up Ludwick's second homer and took
the loss. Matt Garza started for the Rays, and was ripped for 10 hits and
seven runs -- six earned -- in 4 1/3 innings for Tampa, which had won
eight of nine entering play. Jason Bartlett went 4-for-5 and scored twice,
and Carlos Pena belted a three-run homer in the seventh that got the Rays
back in the game.

interleague set. Russell Martin went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Andre Ethier

last four games. Chan Ho Park got the start, but lasted only four innings and

innings, giving up three hits while striking out four. Garret Anderson went
3-for-4 with a run scored while Ervin Santana (6-1) suffered his first
loss of the season as he was charged with four runs on five hits in six
innings for the Angels, who have dropped three of four.
Final Score: Cincinnati 4, Cleveland 2
Cincinnati, OH (My Sportsbook) - Adam Dunn's three-run game-ending home run
off Masa Kobayashi awoke the Cincinnati offense from a game-long slumber and
lifted the Reds to a 4-2 win over the Cleveland Indians at Great American Ball
Park. Trailing 2-1, Joey Votto started the ninth with a single, and after
Edwin Encarnacion was hit by a pitch, Dunn unloaded with a monstrous, 449-foot
blast to right off Kobayashi (2-1) that gave the Reds their fifth straight
win. Brandon Phillips went 2-for-4 and drove in the other run for the Reds,
while Jerry Hairston, Votto and Encarnacion had a hit and a run scored
each. Bill Bray (1-0) worked a scoreless inning in relief to earn the win
behind Aaron Harang, who allowed a run on eight hits in seven frames. The loss
wasted a brilliant start by Fausto Carmona, who allowed a run on four hits
over 7 1/3 innings for the Indians, who have dropped the first two of this
series after a three-game win streak. Ben Francisco went 3-for-4 with a solo
home run and a pair of runs scored, while Ryan Garko went 2-for-4 and

two-run home run and Ryan Braun added a solo homer for the Brewers, who have

Milwaukee, charged with nine hits and four runs over six frames. In the
nightcap, Kevin Youkilis hit the go-ahead bloop single in the seventh inning,
as the Red Sox blew a big lead and then rallied for a 7-6 win over the Brewers
to complete the doubleheader sweep. The game proved to be a game of surges
as the Red Sox wasted a 5-0 lead, but then rallied for two runs in the
seventh to pull off the sweep on the heels of a four-game skid. Mike Lowell
homered and knocked in four runs for the Red Sox. Craig Hansen (1-2) allowed
three unearned runs in the seventh inning, but managed to get the victory.
Craig Counsell and Rickie Weeks each had two RBI for the Brewers, who have
lost four in a row. Milwaukee had four errors, including two in the crucial
seventh inning, and left 11 men on base, going 3-for-15 with runners in
scoring position. Corey Hart homered in the loss. Dave Bush was charged with
five hits and five runs -- four earned -- over six innings in the start for
Milwaukee, while Boston's Tim Wakefield surrendered six hits and three runs

and drove in three runs for the Marlins, who snapped a four-game losing
streak. Jorge Cantu accounted for the other run with an RBI single. Logan
Kensing (3-0) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to notch the win for
starter Scott Olsen, who allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings on
the hill. Jose Guillen drove in two and Billy Butler one for the Royals, whose
five-game win streak came to an end. Brian Bannister (4-5) was tagged with
the loss after giving up seven hits and six runs over 6 1/3 frames.
Final Score: Oakland 5, Atlanta 4
Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - Ryan Sweeney smacked a three-run homer and Rich
Harden out-pitched former teammate Tim Hudson as Oakland held on for a 5-4
victory over the Atlanta Braves in the second meeting of a three-game
interleague set at Turner Field. Jack Cust drilled a solo home run and
Daric Barton scored, knocked in a run and walked three times to help Oakland
snap a four-game slide. In just his second start since being activated from
the disabled list, Harden (2-0) tossed a gem, surrendering a lone run on
four hits while striking out eight through seven innings. Hudson (6-3) didn't
have nearly as much success in his five-inning start, allowing five runs
on five hits and five walks. The right-hander spent his first six years in
Oakland before being acquired by Atlanta in December 2004. Mark Teixeira went
2-for-4 with a run scored, while Yunel Escobar knocked in a run for Atlanta,
which has alternated wins and losses for the past seven games.
Final Score: Texas 6, Houston 2
Arlington, TX (My Sportsbook) - Milton Bradley and Marlon Byrd each belted
two-run homers, and Vicente Padilla pitched seven solid innings as the
Texas Rangers topped the Houston Astros, 6-2, in the middle contest of a
three-game series. Padilla (6-2) allowed just two runs on five hits and
struck out six for the Rangers, who have won the first two of this series
and nine of their last 11 overall. Byrd finished 3-for-4, while David Murphy
and Gerald Laird each drove in a run for Texas. Josh Hamilton went 2-for-3 and
scored a run as the Rangers won their seventh straight series. Lance Berkman
went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and extended his hit streak to 16 games for
the Astros, who have dropped three of five after a four-game win streak.
Miguel Tejada drove in the other Houston run. Roy Oswalt (4-4) took the loss
after being tagged for six runs on 11 hits in six-plus frames before leaving
with a strained right groin.

last eight contests. Alex Cintron went 4-for-4, while Melvin Mora had two
hits with an RBI and scored twice. Brian Burres (4-4) snapped a three-start

Perez (1-4) was charged with 10 hits and six runs through five innings in
suffering the loss in the Battle of the Beltway.
Final Score: Toronto 6, Philadelphia 3
Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Former Phillie Rod Barajas clobbered his
former club with a grand slam and a solo home run as Toronto downed
Philadelphia, 6-3, in the second of a three-game interleague set at Citizens
Bank Park. Barajas, who spent last season with Philadelphia, provided most of
the offense for the Blue Jays, who have won five of their last six. A.J.
Burnett (4-4) got the win as he was charged with two runs on four hits
with three walks and eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings of work. Jimmy Rollins
went 3-for-5 with two RBI while Greg Dobbs had two hits, an RBI and a run
scored for the Phillies, who have lost four of their last seven games.
Adam Eaton (0-2) was charged with the loss for giving up four runs on eight
hits in five innings of work.
Final Score: Detroit 3, Arizona 2
Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Carlos Guillen's two-run single and Matthew
Joyce's solo homer proved to be enough for a 3-2 Detroit victory over the
Arizona Diamondbacks, as the middle installment of the three-game set
featured a pair of up-and-coming rookie hurlers. Armando Galarraga (3-1)
halted the Tigers' five-game losing streak by allowing just one hit and two
runs in six-plus innings on the mound. He did walked five D'Backs but struck
out three while lowering his ERA to 2.80 on the season. Todd Jones pitched a
scoreless ninth for his sixth save, while Curtis Granderson and Miguel
Cabrera each recorded two hits for the victors. Arizona's Max Scherzer (0-2)
was nearly as effective as his counterpart in his third-career start, but

unearned runs in his five innings of work. The Diamondbacks, who snapped a
four-game winning streak, only tallied three hits, as Chris Snyder and Miguel
Montero accounted for the runs batted in.
Final Score: Colorado 3, Minnesota 2
Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - Ryan Spilborghs drove in the winning run with a

trouble in the ninth for his fifth save. Delmon Young went 2-for-4 and
scored a run for the Twins, losers in four of their last five. Brendan
Harris and Hernandez each drove in a run, and Hernandez (6-2) retired the
first 15 hitters he faced, but took the loss after being charged with three
runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 frames.
Final Score: Chicago White Sox 3, San Francisco 1
San Francisco, CA (My Sportsbook) - Mark Buehrle pitched into the seventh
inning and the Chicago White Sox sent Barry Zito to his eighth loss of the
season with a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Zito (0-8) was
charged with eight hits and two runs, walking a season-high six and striking
out four, to become the first Giants starter to lose his first eight
decisions since Jesse Burkett in 1890. Zito, who was skipped in the
rotation for one turn following his April 27 start versus Cincinnati, is the
first Giants pitcher to drop his opening eight decisions since reliever Rod
Beck went 0-9 in 1996. Zito has also lost six straight interleague decisions.
Buehrle (2-5) allowed seven hits and a run, while walking three and logging
one strikeout to snap a five-decision losing streak. Bobby Jenks threw the
ninth inning for his 10th save. Jermaine Dye had three hits and scored once
for the White Sox, who won for the seventh time in 10 games despite leaving
14 men on base. Toby Hall also had three hits in the victory. Jose Castillo
had a pair of hits and scored a run for the Giants, losers of four in a row.
Final Score: Seattle 4, San Diego 2
Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - Adrian Beltre's two-run homer broke a tie in
the seventh inning, as the Seattle Mariners used a solid Erik Bedard start to
slip past the San Diego Padres, 4-2 in the second installment of a three-game
set at Safeco Field. Bedard (3-2), who didn't last past the second inning
in his previous start, fanned 10 while allowing just two runs and five hits
in his eight innings on the mound. J.J. Putz put the tying run on base in the
ninth inning, but managed to record his fourth save of the season. Ichiro
Suzuki was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a steal and an RBI double, as Seattle
won its second game in three tries. Randy Wolf (2-4) was on top of his
game until the seventh, but the lefty finished with the loss after being
charged for three runs on seven hits through 6 1/3 innings for San Diego,
which has dropped three of four. San Diego registered just six hits, as
Adrian Gonzalez provided the runs with a two-run homer. Brian Giles tallied
two hits in defeat.
