Indianapolis, IN (My Sportsbook) - The Indiana Pacers promoted David Morway to general manager, the club announced Wednesday.

Morway had been senior vice president of basketball operations, and will keep the duties of that job, which include day-to-day operation. He will also pick up salary cap responsibilities, and assist team president of basketball, Larry Bird, with personnel decisions.

The move comes a little more than a month after former chief executive Donnie Walsh departed to join the New York Knicks.

"I'm very happy to have David by my side," Bird said. "This newly expanded role maximizes David's skills and experience, and I'm confident we have the knowledge and resources to get the Pacers to the level we expect, our owners expect and our fans expect."

Morway has been with the Pacers for 10 years. From 1985-88, the University of Arizona graduate served as assistant to the president of the San Diego Padres, then started and was president of his sports management firm for the next decade.

"This is a great opportunity and a dream come true for myself and my family. I've enjoyed working with Larry for the last five years and I'm looking forward to continuing this relationship," Morway said.
