Eindhoven, Netherlands (My Sportsbook) - PSV Eindhoven is on the verge of capturing its fourth consecutive Eredivisie title, something they can accomplish on Sunday with a win at home against Twente.
PSV owns a five-point lead on second-place Ajax with only two games to play, meaning that PSV can secure the crown with two points from its final two games. However, manager Sef Vergoossen has said that his side is not interested in sharing the points on Sunday, that they will attack and go for the win.
"We are anxious to win the title," Vergoossen said. "We will be crowned champions if we collect two points from the final two matches of the season. So two draws would do, but we will do anything to produce a match-winning performance on Sunday and win the title. We have no other option but to go for it. But we will not foolishly move, say, seven players forward."
PSV will also be trying to overcome the disappointment of being eliminated from the UEFA Cup by Fiorentina in the quarterfinals on Thursday, but Vergoossen doesn't think that the loss will carry over into Sunday's match.
"We never dwell upon defeats too long," the manager said. "We are keen to play our next game and try to bounce back to winning ways. We are obviously disappointed not having been able to book a place in the semifinals of the UEFA Cup, but it has not left a deep impression on me. The only thing that counts is Sunday's game."
The two teams played to a 0-0 draw in September, but both will be looking for all three points on Sunday. PSV will try to clinch the title at home since they will be on the road next weekend at Vitesse, while Twente also has plenty to gain from the match as they battle to remain in the top five and fight for a Champions League qualifying spot.
Twente is in fourth place, but leads Heerenveen and Feyenoord by only one point.
Ajax will visit Groningen on Sunday and must win its final two games to even have a chance at the title. Groningen does not have a shot at the top five, but they will take part in the playoffs for UEFA Cup positions.
Third-place NAC can earn a top-five spot with a win at Heracles, while Heerenveen visits Sparta and Feyenoord travels to Willem II.
Bottom-two sides Venlo and Excelsior are running out of time with just two games to play. Both teams need wins to keep their hopes of avoiding the drop zone alive, and Venlo invades Roda while Excelsior entertains AZ Alkmaar.
Graafschap is only one point from the relegation playoffs but they can take a big step in securing safety with a win against Utrecht, while Vitesse and NEC will square off with both teams battling for a spot in the UEFA Cup qualifying playoffs.
