(My Sportsbook) - Michael Vick will make just his fourth start of the season in Week 17 against Jacksonville after returning from a fractured leg. He has shown he still has all of his explosive speed, but has not been consistent this year.
The Falcons' win last week wasn't quite as exciting, but it wasn't decided until the final 30 seconds. The Falcons eliminated the Bucs from playoff contention with a 30-28 road win. Tampa Bay missed a two-point conversion that would have forced overtime. Atlanta allowed three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to let the Bucs back in the game.
Atlanta running back T.J. Duckett has a team-high 10 touchdowns, and had 93 yards rushing against Tampa Bay, but he has not impressed since becoming the starter.
If the Falcons are going to score big versus Jacksonville, they will have to run the ball well. Vick can make yards per carry look good with one of his long runs, but he was encouraged by the running game against Tampa Bay. Center Martin Bibla held up well in his first start.
"The offensive line played a great game, maybe one of the best games they've played all year and I take my hats off to them," Vick said.
As for his own running, Vick is being more cautious to reduce the risk of another prolonged injury.
"It's a part of my mindset," he said of taking less chances. "I think the older that I get, the more that I mature and the more I play this position, then I think the better I'll become with managing the game, managing the clock and doing all of the important things that a quarterback is supposed to do. Keeping myself out of harm's way is an important thing I'm trying to do."
While a loss would help their draft position, Vick wants no part of that for the Falcons. He said a win going into the offseason would be good to build on.
"It gives us hope going into next year," he said. "It's important that we go into this offseason positive and have something positive to think about. It's good for the team, it's good for the mindset of the team and hopefully we can finish up strong."
