Victoria, Australia (My Sportsbook) - Ewan Porter managed a one-under 71 Saturday and is again alone atop the leaderboard after three rounds of the Moonah Classic.
Porter, who led by one after the opening round and shared the lead after round two, completed 54 holes at seven-under-par 209. He was lucky to complete the round at all after injuring his neck early in the day while working out.
"I went to the gym here early this morning around 7:00 a.m.," said Porter of how he injured himself. "I would usually go mid-morning, but with my tee time I thought I'd go earlier in the day.
"I was doing some lat pull-downs. I've had this injury before and it seems to happen when I have weights above my head."
Wayne Perske, who shared the second-round lead with Porter, posted a 72 and shares second place with Terry Price, who carded his third straight 70, at minus-six.
Tee McCabe is alone in fourth at five-under-par 211 after a three-under 69 in round three.
Porter slipped to a bogey on the par-five second, but recovered that lost stroke as he birdied the par-four third at Moonah Links.
An eagle on the par-five fourth gave Porter the lead at minus-eight. He faltered to a bogey on the seventh, but remained atop the leaderboard.
Porter moved back to minus-eight as he birdied the ninth. After two straight pars, he dropped another shot on the 12th. Porter closed with six straight pars to stay in the lead.
"I am very, very confident at the moment," said Porter. "I'm playing really well. If I don't do anything different tomorrow, there is no reason why I cannot win. I'm just very happy with the way I am playing."
Perske struggled most of his round. He bogeyed Nos. 3, 7 and 10 to fall to minus-three. He started to climb back into the mix with birdies on 15 and 16.
The Australian faltered to his fourth bogey at 17, but bounced back with a chip-in eagle at the last to gain a share of second.
Price birdied No. 2, but bogeyed three of the next six holes to fall back to two-under. He caught fire down the stretch.
After a birdie on the 13th, Price birdied 15 and 16 to move back to five- under. He also birdied the par-five 18th to tie Perske at minus-six.
D.J. Brigman's four-under 68 tied for the best round of the day. That moved him into a share of fifth place at four-under-par 212, where he stands alongside Fran Quinn (71). Alistair Presnell and Fabian Gomez share seventh at minus-three.
