Guangzhou, China (My Sportsbook) - Shannon Boxx scored in the 77th minute to help the United States beat host nation China, 1-0, earning them the Four Nations Tournament crown on Sunday. The win capped a perfect 3-0 run through the tournament, which also featured wins over Canada and Finland. It also marked the first competition under new head coach Pia Sundhage, who replaced former boss Greg Ryan in December. The Chinese played a very defensive game on Sunday, dropping players behind the ball and presenting little in the way of offense. The strategy worked for them until the 77th minute, when Boxx sent a looping header over keeper Zhang Yanru for the only goal of the match. Hope Solo got the start in goal for the United States, and she once again posted a clean sheet, although she only faced one shot. Overall, Sundhage had to be pleased with the Americans efforts in the competition. They outscored their three opponents by a combined 9-1 score, and did so with only 12 of their players from September's World Cup team. Despite the loss, China still finished second to the United States, while Canada took third after drawing with Finland 1-1. Jodi-Ann Robinson scored in stoppage time for Canada to help them earn a point against Finland, which lost its other two games in the tournament.
