Kaupulehu-Kona, HI (My Sportsbook) - Playing from behind for most of the day -- on the leaderboard and the course -- Allen Doyle moved ahead when it counted. His homespun swing carrying him only so far off the tees, Doyle made back-to- back birdie putts at the end of Saturday's second round of the MasterCard Championship to shoot a six-under 66 and take a one-shot lead on Fred Funk. Playing more than 50 yards behind twosome partner Tom Purtzer on some holes, the 59-year-old Doyle managed four birdies on the back nine at Hualalai. He rolled in a 27-footer at the 18th to pass Funk, who had posted a stunning nine-under 63 more than an hour earlier. The 11-time Champions Tour winner stood at 15-under 129 for just his second 36-hole lead in nearly four years. Funk was at 14-under 130, one shot ahead of first-round leader Purtzer (69) and Jim Thorpe (68), with Jay Haas (67) another stroke further back at 132. Reigning Charles Schwab Cup champion Loren Roberts (65) joined Denis Watson (66) and D.A. Weibring (69) at 133. MORE TO FOLLOW.
