Buenos Aires, Argentina (My Sportsbook) - Lanus is not one of the biggest clubs in Argentina, but the modest team clinched the first league title in its 92-year history on Sunday, earning a 1-1 draw with Boca Juniors. Tigre was the only team that had a chance to catch Lanus, but they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Argentinos Juniors as Pablo Maximiliano Barzola converted a 57th-minute penalty kick and Tigre had two players sent off. Lanus knew that they needed only a draw to clinch the title, and Jose Sand put his team on top before halftime with a header for his 15th goal of the campaign. Boca put together a good start to the second half as Carlos Bueno missed a pair of good scoring chances, but Martin Palermo leveled the match in the 68th minute. Palermo's initial effort was stopped by keeper Mauro Bossio but the Boca striker followed up his shot and drove home the rebound. With 20 minutes to play, Lanus still had much work to do to preserve its draw, but that task got a little easier in the 71st minute when Boca midfielder Fabian Vargas was sent off for a reckless challenge on Sebastian Blanco. The visitors were then able to hold off 10-man Boca and lift the league crown for the first time.
