Orlando, FL (My Sportsbook) - Larry Nelson became the second father to win the Del Webb Father/Son challenge with two different sons when he combined with Josh Nelson for a second consecutive 12-under 60 in the final round on Sunday.
The Nelsons finished the 36-hole tournament at 24-under 120 to beat Bob and Kevin Tway by two shots. Larry Nelson, a three-time major winner on the PGA Tour in the 1980s, also won the event with son Drew in 2004.
Larry and Josh became the third straight team to win the event with a score of 120, following Bernhard and Stefan Langer, who were the two-time defending champions this week.
The winners split a $200,000 check, officially bringing an end to the Champions Tour season.
Raymond Floyd is the only other father to win with two different sons.
"I don't know what to say. For me, this is overwhelming. The opportunity to play with him -- every time we get out here, it's exciting," Josh Nelson said.
The Nelsons carded two eagles on their final three holes Saturday to take the overnight lead. They finished strong again in the second round, with Josh rolling in an eagle putt at the 16th to give them a safe advantage.
For good measure, the Nelsons two-putted the 18th for a closing birdie.
"It's fun just trying to get your nerves, your emotions, your expectations, everything in order," said Josh. "And to actually hit good shots under pressure is a lot of fun."
The Tways closed with the 16th 59 in tournament history to move into solo second place at 22-under 122. They played with the Nelsons on Saturday and knew they'd have to go low in the final round for a chance to win.
They tied for second place last year.
"I thought we'd have to shoot about a 57 or something like that," said Bob Tway. "You never complain about 59, but if you make an eagle on 16 or 18 or you birdie 17, then we get to that number."
Mark and Shaun O'Meara finished in third place at 20-under 124 following their second 62. Raymond and Robert Floyd tied for fourth place alongside Curtis and Thomas Strange at 125 after both teams shot 63 on Sunday.
Vijay and Qass Singh (62), co-runners up last year, shared sixth place with Arnold Palmer and grandson Sam Saunders (64) and Greg and Gregory Norman (63) at 126.
David Duval made a nice showing with stepson Deano Karavites, carding rounds of 61 and 66 to tie the Langers (63) at 127.
Hale and Steve Irwin, Jack and Gary Nicklaus, Tom and Thomas Lehman, Tom and David Kite, Craig and Chris Stadler, Fuzzy Zoeller and daughter Gretchen, Billy and Bob Casper and Lee and Daniel Trevino rounded out the 18-team field.
