Groningen, Netherlands (My Sportsbook) - Feyenoord was impressive in its last game against Ajax to remain level in points with the Eredivisie leaders, but a two-break wasn't kind to club.
Feyenoord is saddled with numerous injuries, especially on offense, and visits Groningen on Sunday with a weakened squad.
Luigi Bruins still hasn't recovered from a hamstring problem, Tim Vincken and Nicky Hofs have thigh injuries, Chun-Soo Lee is sick, and Michael Mols is out because of suspension.
With so many injuries, manager Bert Van Marwijk has to make changes to a club that battled to a 2-2 draw with Ajax two weeks ago.
"If I count Nicky Hofs ...," Van Marwijk said, "I come to five strikers that are not available. It was nice to be able to train so well for two weeks, but I'd have rather trained a little less and had the injured players back."
Theo Lucius and Danny Buijs are expected to play for Feyenoord despite slight injuries, but Dwight Tiendalli is also out as he tries to regain his fitness in reserves.
Van Marwijk expects "an aggressive Groningen," but the hosts have struggled a lot recently.
Groningen is winless in its last three, and its two losses during the stretch are 5-1 defeats to NEC and Roda.
"Far too many players must improve," Groningen manager Ron Jans after the loss to Roda JC two weeks ago. "The heads went down when it was still 0-0."
Groningen swept the series last year, winning 3-0 at home and 4-0 on the road. Another win over Feyenoord would be perfect for Jans, who took over as manager five years ago this month.
On Friday, NAC tied Roda 0-0 as both teams pulled even in points with fifth- place Twente.
On Saturday, Heerenveen hosts Graafschap, AZ hosts Willem II, Excelsior hosts PSV and Heracles hosts Venlo.
Also on Sunday, Ajax hosts Vitesse, Utrecht hosts NEC and Sparta hosts Twente.
