Berne, Switzerland (My Sportsbook) - Benfica midfielder Augustin Binya was banned for six UEFA matches on Friday for his high tackle on Celtic's Scott Brown in a Champions League match. Binya received a red card in the 85th minute of the game when he lunged at Brown and spiked the Scotland international near the knee. Although Brown was not seriously injured on the play, he said after the match that he felt as though Binya had tried to break his leg. The UEFA disciplinary body met on Thursday to decide the matter, and handed down the punishment on Friday, which Benfica is expected to appeal. Celtic won the match 1-0 to move three points ahead of last-place Benfica, who will now likely be without Binya for their final two group-stage contests against AC Milan on November 28 and at Shakhtar Donetsk on December 4. Should Benfica fail to advance or qualify for the UEFA Cup this season, Binya would serve out the remainder of his suspension in future European campaigns.
